The Kerlin Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by Callum Innes, from 20 October - 18 November 2000. 
During the last decade Callum Innes has emerged as one of the most significant abstract painters of his generation achieving widespread recognition through major solo and group shows in Europe and the USA. 
Though working within an abstract tradition that is directly linked to minimalism, Innes has developed his own repertoire of techniques, a highly individual touch, and a finely honed colour sense that give his work a strong identity of its own. Despite the sparseness of his means and within the formal strictures of geometric sub-divisions Innes manages to create paintings that though rigorously abstract have a rare humanity and tenderness and undeniable lyrical beauty. 
Callum Innes was born in Edinburgh in 1962 and still lives and works there. In 1992 he had solo exhibitions at the ICA, London and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh. He was nominated for the Turner Prize and the Jerwood Prize for painting in 1995, was prizewinner of the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition in 1997 and the Nat West Art Prize in 1998. Recent solo shows include the Kunsthaus Zurich in 1997 and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin in 1999.
