Ailbhe Ní Bhriain, Interval Four

The CCI is delighted to showcase Irish artist Ailbhe Ní Bhriain whose multi-disciplinary work is rooted in an exploration of imperial legacy, human displacement and the Anthropocene.

This exhibition presents Interval IV, a monumental Jacquard tapestry and the fourth work in her acclaimed Interval series (2023–2025). Woven from silk, wool, cotton, and Lurex, the tapestry combines photography and collage to create a richly layered scene that is both precise and dreamlike. A Victorian era portrait—typically an emblem of industry, empire, and permanence—is disrupted by images of underground geological formations and fragments of contemporary ruins. These juxtapositions situate the scars of human ambition within the deep time of geology, a register that unsettles all notions of stability and endurance. Shown alongside the tapestry is a quieter abstract piece from Ní Bhriain’s Picture series (2022–2025) which imagines a future archive in which photographic images endure only as material traces.
