Caves have always been closely linked to human culture. Our ancestors used them as shelters. Furthermore, caves have always been places of particular spiritual significance. The first works of art, the cave paintings, have been preserved in them. At the same time, we associate a certain threat with the dark, difficult-to-reach structures of the underworld. Faszination Höhle or Fascination of Caves is dedicated to the motif of the cave in visual art: from the legendary Blue Grotto on Capri, which was painted many times by the Romantics, to artists of our day such as Verner Panton, Per Kirkeby, Mamma Andersson, and Dorothy Cross.
