"Land in Sight" - Anniversary Exhibition by Jan Pleitner at the Old Kurhaus Dangast

The Old Kurhaus in Dangast invites you to the anniversary exhibition "Land in Sight" by artist Jan Pleitner, taking place from July 12 to September 8, 2024. This exhibition marks the artist's 40th birthday and ten years since his last exhibition at the same venue.

In "Land in Sight," Jan Pleitner presents a series of small, abstract-psychedelic sea and landscape paintings. These works, known as "Cut-Outs," have been discovered using stencils on various old paintings by the artist. Painting becomes nature, and the painter becomes a landscape photographer who uses a stencil as a camera to capture the perfect moment.

The paintings' titles are a special feature of the exhibition, taken from the poetic texts of the band Ton Steine Scherben. These words carry a raw romanticism and the spirit of punk, blending with the picturesque depictions of the sea and landscape, reflecting a desire for movement, optimism, and fighting spirit in uncertain times. The sea, with its infinite vastness and change, becomes a metaphor for the longing for new horizons and hope.

"Land in Sight" is a collaboration with the Old Kurhaus Dangast and is curated by Jan Pleitner himself. Admission is free, and the exhibition can be visited during the Kurhaus's regular opening hours (Friday to Sunday).

Jan Pleitner, born in 1984 in Oldenburg, graduated from the Düsseldorf Art Academy as a Master's student and has exhibited his works internationally, from New York to Tokyo. Last year, the Kunsthalle Emden dedicated a large solo exhibition to the artist.

The opening will take place on July 12 from 3:00 PM. For more information, visit www.kurhaus-dangast.de.
