Job Opportunity: Media & Communications Role

Kerlin Gallery seeks a new media and communications person to represent the gallery, acting as the point of contact for the media, industry representatives and the public. The role includes publicising the gallery programme and the activities of the artists it represents both nationally and internationally. The ability to create content including artist press releases is essential. The role encompasses both traditional and digital media, overseeing the gallery’s online presence as well as being a point of communication within the gallery. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as a big part of the job is networking and promoting the work of the gallery and its artists. Strong knowledge of both Irish and international contemporary art is essential.

Responsibilities:

- Help to plan and implement annual press release and newsletter calendars

- Promote the Gallery and the represented artists through various communications campaigns

- Publicise the Gallery’s programs –nationally and internationally– through broadcast, print, and online outlets

- Write and distribute related press releases

- Create and implement tailored pitches for media outlets

- Develop and manage relationships with journalists and media

- Develop and coordinate press and promotional events, and identify new media opportunities

- Liaise with artists and gallery staff when writing press releases and creative content

- Record and archive press coverage results

- Initiate relevant internal communications

- Respond to media queries

 

The successful candidate will have:

- A third-level qualification in a related field 

- Previous experience working in Public Relations (PR) and Communications

- A strong knowledge of Irish and international contemporary art

- A knowledge of the media landscape in Ireland and Internationally

- Excellent writing skills and the ability to create engaging and dynamic content

- An ability to work on own initiative and as part of an effective team

- Excellent organisational, planning and administrative skills and ability to multi-task and good attention to detail

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to engage with a wide range of people at varying levels inside and outside the Gallery

- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise according to demanding deadlines

- Proficient IT (Microsoft) skills with relevant knowledge of marketing, digital and social media

- An enthusiasm and interest for working for the gallery’s artists and a willingness to contribute to a positive working environment
