The historic track used by the FIAT factory for testing cars on the roof of the Lingotto is opened to the public through a project of artistic installations conceived by Pinacoteca Agnelli that transforms the new roof garden on the Pista 500 into a surprising exhibition path.

La Pista 500 is a green lung positioned 28 meters over the ground, that includes 40,000 plants and over 300 diverse species, the biggest in Europe. FIAT’s conversion of the pista realised by architects Camerana&Partners becomes a unique test-drive for the new electric 500 car by FIAT, a manifesto of sustainability and inclusivity as well as a suspended public art project.

The new hanging garden will be inhabited by installations conceived specifically by international artists for its spaces. The art project on the Pista 500 is aimed at broadening the experience of one of the most symbolic buildings in the city by turning it into a cultural venue.

The interventions on the pista draw on various sculptural languages: audio and environmental installations, light and sound works, video and expanded cinema, as well as sculptures that experiment with urban materials, projects that are functional to the movement of the visitors along the track or that confront industrial architecture. The concept is that of an open-air exhibition which develops over time and space, with renewed dialogues among the works on display, the venue that hosts them and the diverse audiences they come into contact with.
