Nathalie Du Pasquier & Pierre Charpin, Andiamo

'Andiamo' brings together the works of Pierre Charpin and Nathalie Du Pasquier.

In 1987, Nathalie Du Pasquier (born 1957) dedicated herself fully to painting. A few years earlier, she had moved to Milan and, in 1981, participated in the founding of Memphis: a collective of "irreverent" designers, advocating a sensual and stimulating design, breaking with minimalist and functionalist forms.

That same year, 1987, Pierre Charpin (born 1962) saw his very first object produced. Born into a family of artists living in Ivry-sur-Seine, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bourges, in the art department, where he discovered the provocative design of Alchimia and Memphis. The hyper-colorful design of these two Milanese movements opened up a new field of expressive possibilities for him.

Nathalie Du Pasquier and Pierre Charpin became friends in the mid-1990s. Objects, a shared appreciation for drawing, forms, colors, and surfaces became their common ground. 'Andiamo' is a dialogue between their two worlds. It bypasses conventions and expectations: no chronology, hierarchy, classification, or arrangement. It places their respective works under a new lens, playing on formal and semantic relationships.

A self-taught artist, Nathalie Du Pasquier developed her skills through travel, exposure to different cultures, and observation. Her work stems from the sheer pleasure of painting and drawing, through intuition and collage, like overlapping thoughts. Over time, Du Pasquier has replaced the everyday objects she painted in her early work with pure, abstract forms, sometimes derived from wooden constructions.

The exhibition brings together works from all periods of the two artists. Blending paintings, installations, and objects to create new configurations, their works inhabit the space. They constitute a joyful and colorful landscape in which attributions blur and celebrate the gestures and friendship of the two artists.
